Since I'm in the midst of being the birth midwife (okay, never mind--I'm channeling the divine spark of inspiration) for my DykeLove Quickies F/F kinky romance books, I really don't have much business participating in this Book Boyfriends Cafe Blog Hop, do I?

The lunch Mariah just had did little to keep her stomach from flip-flopping. Clark wasn't the kind of man anyone denied, even if he had no follow-up appointment in her calendar. Gulping, she hoped she didn't regret what she was about to say. “Thank you, Charlotte. You can send him in.”

Within seconds, the door to her austere cream-colored office opened. As quietly as he opened the door, Clark also closed it with a definitive click. Did he just lock her in? He sounded like a predator on the prowl, and she was the prey. How did he turn the tables like that, when this was her office, her company, her building?

Show no fear. Her mother's firm voice entered her head. No way would the daughter of Annika Alisha Olsen back down in the face of any man.

Her body pulled against the ropes. Not to get away from him, as it should have, but to move closer. She wanted those talented lips on hers. Ha! What a joke. Even her part-time on-campus admin job didn’t cover the rest of her expenses.

So Amber had done the obvious: forget the books.

Thus, her pursuit of the printed word became a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure disaster. The first choice was to borrow the books that were available for circulation at the library, renewing them as often as possible, and making it on someone’s Chronic Hold Hit List.

For books not available in the library, the second choice was to scan and print free copies from the student computer labs (despite the long line of Death Glares waiting to use them) for the books she could buy and return within thirty days for her money back. Thus, making it on someone else’s Copyright Infringement Sue-Happy Hit List.

Since most new editions weren’t in the library and were unavailable used, the third and last choice was to buy the books that were nonrefundable after breaking the shrink-wrap (like the one that was sitting in front of her right now), which meant that Amber made someone’s New Editions Duped List.

Which brought Amber back to her miserable existence in the cafe.

Concentrate? Right. Not when her stomach was scolding her.

Before another rumble could sound from the beast, Amber stood up and made a move on it...

A: Gladly! Clark Mannings tops again in this book. You've seen a bit of his kink before and you'll definitely see more of it in this book. Hint: the cover gives you a good indication of what he really likes. :-) And yes, he did catch up with Mariah Olsen and had her in quite a bind. ;-)

Britta Akerman, who topped in book three, tops again in this book. However, it's not going to be what you expect because you'll definitely see an edgier side of her. She won Mariah's affections in book three but she'll crush them in this book.

Q: Juicy! I notice this book is about 5,000 words longer than the previous two books. Care to comment on that?

A: Yeah, I'm dealing with three strong-willed characters. They're all tough in their own ways and, believe it or not, the way Book 4 ended had me ripped to shreds and pulling my hair out about Book 5. There I was, sitting and staring at the blinking cursor: How the heck am I going to get them all on the same side to get them to their Happily Ever After? 

Q: Any clue as to how that will happen?

A: My lips are sealed. :-) You'll find out when Purr Scent V: The Menagerie comes out in the next couple months.  Speaking of book five, below is the cover reveal...

She remembered staying at Geneva's for about a week after her condo sold. The light streaming through the patio doors reminded her of the secret garden she frequented past those double doors, the little patch of earth she left almost a year ago.

“Where's your sense of humor?” Geneva giggled, then lifted her mug to toast Mariah and said, “Congrats on getting an interview by the way. Sorry I didn't have much time to talk last night. Friday evenings are usually reserved for Frank. How did it go anyway?” Geneva then sipped her favorite: chai tea. Mariah could almost smell it through the monitor.

Slightly envious and desiring a comfy beverage of her own, Mariah picked up her laptop and moved it to the kitchen to make a drink for herself: hot chocolate. Wished she had thought of using her lightweight iPad to Skype instead. Filling a pot with milk, she fired up the stove and then frowned. “She got into my business, didn't trust the little I had on my résumé and dismissed me.”

“Girl, I could have put you in touch with people in my industry for any admin job you needed,” Geneva said.

Geneva sighed. “Yes, I know. You actually have good reason to continue doing so.”

Mariah's ears perked and her stomach dropped. Dread tingled up her spine. “What do you mean?”

“Your Dom came looking for you,” Geneva said.

She regarded the spreadsheet before her and checked the calculations again. Everything matched, every cent.

Still 5:55. What a long minute. She wasn't into numbers, numerology or some other hocus-pocus like that, but she couldn't help noticing three fives in a row. Numbers—what a cosmic joke to be working in the finance department. Well, she did like practical stuff, so yeah, in a way, this job was a good thing. However, finance was tedious and time-consuming. If Zack—correction, Mr. Humboldt—hadn't given her a shitload of work to do before tomorrow's meeting, she would have been home by now.

Actually, she could have been home by now. After all, she was the daughter of Nikolaus Akerman, founder and CEO of Akerman Enterprises, and Mr. Humboldt was only one of the CFOs in the company. She didn't need to stay, but she had also refused preferential treatment after graduating Cornell with her MBA two years ago. No one could say that she had the silver platter offered to her. She had worked her butt off from a lowly entry admin position in sales to be where she was today—in the executive offices.

She sighed and checked some more numbers before saving her work. A slight movement caught the corner of her eye. Shifting her gaze beyond the monitor, she noticed Mr. Humboldt himself. His salt-and-pepper hair framed shrewd dark gray eyes. Although his black pin-striped suit seemed harmlessly sterile, something in his demeanor prompted her to be on guard.

She faked not seeing him but decided she had enough for today—a couple minutes shy of six o'clock be damned. Switching off her computer, she bent low to open the drawer for her belongings. As she stuffed her phone in her purse and straightened in her seat, Mr. Humboldt had advanced to her desk.

She didn't need to feign shock at the invasion of personal space. He was too close for comfort. Recovering quickly, she forced a polite smile and said, as she stood up to leave, “Have a good evening, Mr. Humboldt.”

“Ms. Akerman.” He nodded to acknowledge her greeting, a thin smile failing to reach his eyes. “Are the documents ready for the meeting tomorrow?”

“Yes, they are,” she said, trying not to breathe the overwhelming cologne. It smelled awful, especially on a guy at least twice the age of the targeted market. Apparently, he felt immune to the company's scent-free environment policy. “I double-checked everything, Mr. Humboldt.”

“Will you print them out?” he asked, his voice low. “I'd like to check over dinner.”

She stifled a groan. Really? Did he expect her to turn on her computer again when he had access to the very same documents on his? “The documents are on the server, Mr. Humboldt.”

“Yes, I understand. My computer froze, and I need your help.” His jaw tightened, eyes darker and nostrils partially flared.

Damn. Was he turned on by this weak ploy of his to get her to stay that much longer? That power-tripping son of a bitch. He was in no way sincere.

The submissions need to be between 3,000-8,000 words and there will be cash prizes of $500 total for 1st-6th place, (explained above), paid via PayPal. Additionally there will be prizes for the top 10 entries (also explained above). Entries will be accepted from the 11th July until the 11th August.

On August 12th, all entries will be posted to the site and voting will commence for 2 weeks until 25th August, when the winners will be announced.

Can I enter something I’ve self-published already?

No, it cannot be something you have self-published already. It must be original material. We will be using Copyscape and other semantic technologies to verify that the content is original.

What content isn’t allowed in my submission?

This is the first competition & hopefully we will have more after it. So starting off there are some restrictions on what we will and won’t accept. Right now, we won’t accept submissions about scat, golden showers, rape, beastiality, excessive violence, excessive profanity, incest or underage sexual relationships. If you’re unsure if your submission is acceptable, please email me.

What age do I need to be to enter?

You need to be over 18 to enter.

IMPORTANT: Who owns the copyright?

You will always own the copyright to any story you submit to the competition. If you submit a story to the competition, you will be granting the website the non-exclusive worldwide right to publish it. You will also be granting us the right to enforce the copyright on your submission in the case that it is used without your permission by any other publication.
